DJ Weight Update!

We went to the Dr yesterday and.... (drum roll) DJ IS GAINING WEIGHT! He gained 10 oz in 10 days.  He is now in the 2.47%.  I know that doesn't seem like much but we are moving the right way up the chart.

Unfortunately (for those who are squeamish we are about to talk about poop and bums.. if you wish to skip this part jump down to SO THE DR SAID), DJ is still pooping too often and has what we thought was really bad diaper rash.  The Dr looked at it and it turns out that it is a burn.  Basically his poop is so acidic that it is burning his bum every time he fills his diaper. So we are putting lots and lots of diaper cream, but its only doing so much.

SO THE DR SAID that not only do I need to leave out all milk products (cheese, yogurt, and of course milk) but all knock off milk products (soy milk, lactate free yogurt).  Also tomatoes, chocolate, broccoli.... the list went on.  Finally I asked the Dr okay, what can I eat?  And he said "boiled chicken, white rice, and plain pasta... maybe iceberg lettuce and cucumber."  I'm willing to admit that I cried just a little bit.  We are still trying to nurse, but I'm really worried about getting the right nutrition.  So I'm going to be really good for the next two weeks and let all of it get out of my system and let DJs bum heal.  Then I'm gonna try foods into my diet one at a time and see how he reacts to it.

Well the baby is waking up from his nap so off I go.

A day in the life of DJ and Mom

I thought I would share an insight into DJ and my schedual these days, so here we go...

6:00 am DJ wakes up for his 'first' (I don't count the 3am one) feeding of the day.  Dad is usually home and changes his diaper.  So Mom wakes up to a "dang it" from Dad, who just got sprayed.  About two minutes later Dad brings him in in just a diaper with a clean outfit.  Dad's big fingers struggle with all the tiny buttons.
After being changed DJ eats and then cuddles with Mom and sleeps for a few hours. (Dad gets ready and goes to class)

10:00 am  Mom and DJ pull their butts outta bed, we eat and play peeka boo and read at least 3 books.
Mom and DJ usally try to take a 15 min walk some time before his next nap.

1:00 pm DJ goes down for a nap and Mom gets stuff done, finally.

3:00 pm Mom starts working on dinner (yes it takes 2-3 hrs these days) and DJ has tummy and swing time.

Sometime in the evening Daddy gets home and plays with DJ until his evening nap.  Finally around 9-9:30 its off to bed :) We are boring.

2 month Doctors appointment

DJ is doing pretty well.  He is 22 in long (45%), yeah! However, he is only 9 lbs 5 oz, which means he has dropped from the 41% to the 2%.  The doctor thinks he has a lactose tolerance issue, which means I am giving up all dairy.  No cheese or yogurt.  He also has me giving up onions, garlic, and spicy food.  We go back to the doctor in 10 days and if he hasn't been gaining weight by then we will start supplementing with formula.

He also got his shots today.  Poor baby, they gave him a oral vaccine that the nurse said was really sweet, he loved it.  So my poor sweet baby was smiling at me and happy, then the mean nurse stuck him.  He gave me the saddest look of betrayal and then screamed.  I'll admit I teared a little too.  The poor kid has been either asleep or screaming since.  His poor little legs are so sore and I can't tell him why it hurts, or even explain that if he stops kicking so much it wont hurt so bad.  I don't like my baby hurting :(

Uh oh, looks like little man is waking up.  I'm gonna go cuddle with my baby.

Thats right I'm Crafty!!

I'm so proud of myself.  I actually made one of those baby carrier covers for DJ.  I didn't think about having one until I'd been to Church once with just the Moby, and my back killed me for two days after.  Then last Sunday I tried to improvise with a blanket over the carrier, then of course I couldn't carry it with the blanket.  So I looked up a pattern and made one! Yup I rock!

We had a lot of miracles this year (me finding a job so fast and David being able to work extra hours all summer, to name just two) but DJ is our greatest.  I can't get over how blessed we were.  The fact that our doctor took the time to double check the ultrasound and decided to do a C-section.  Or that we were in a small enough hospital that DJ was the only baby on the floor when his oxygen tanked, if he hadn't been it might have taken much longer to notice that he was not doing well (the nurse just noticed a slight ashy tint and decided to check him) and he could have had a lot more problems.  Also that we were in a small enough hospital that I was able to stay on the floor in a room with him after I was discharged, not having to sleep on the nursery couch or drive back and forth every day really made a huge difference.  I am so grateful to have him home and healthy, it actually makes it so that I don't get frustrated with the screaming as fast because I am just so grateful that his lungs are working well enough for him to scream at all.  Thank you again for all the prayers and love.  God has truly blessed us with amazing family and friends

D.J.: Update

I can't believe my little man is already 3 1/2 weeks old! Or how much he has already changed!   He is just so precious I can't get over it.  Here are some updates.

1.  The main one every one is asking about is his Oxygen, the Dr. has him off of it except at night and that is more of a precaution because no one is watching him then.  He too an over night saturation test earlier this week and we are waiting for the results.  Hopefully we get to take him off completely first thing after Christmas.  It will be so nice not to have to worry about cords at all! It is amazing how easy he is to tote around without two or three machines hooked up to him all the time.

2.  He has a talent! D.J. is very very good at blowing bubbles.  This may not seem like much but we find it pretty entertaining (oh my, I am turning into one of 'those' parents who thinks all the mundane things there kid does is amazing... oh well, it try not to facebook update every single one how does that sound? lol)

If you look closely you can see him blowing bubbles... not the best example but the only picture I have.

3.  We are on a FOUR HOUR schedule!! YEAH!!!!! This means that at night I get about four hours of sleep at a time before I am called to feed the chunkers.  Muah hahah!! That is so much better than the 2 1/2 to 3 hour schedule we were on before (and in case you are wondering, yes that one hour of sleep at a time does make a huge difference.)

This kid conks out!!

4.  We had our first second and third baths! DJ loves to take baths.  He splashes around in his tub happy as a clam.  He does not like having his head scrubbed but other wise bath time may be one of the highlights of his day.  He gets really ticked when I have to take him out.  He is a water baby like his Mama!

Those are the major updates.  We are so excited to be celebrating Christmas as a family! I can't believe how lucky I am to have such a sweet happy little boy for a son.  He really is such an angel baby I could not have asked for better.

Merry Christmas from the Pelon Family!
